'des Caffés'; or how I rate my reviews.

Maybe you are new to this blog, or maybe you have read some of my reviews already? Either way, you might have wondered about the Coffee-system I use to rate my reviewed books. What does it even mean: one or more Coffees? A quick explanation...

When I'm reviewing a book, it is a mostly personal experience: yes, you can analyze it to bits, but in the end, it comes down to how much you liked reading it or not.

To translate the feelings I have on books, I use a Coffee-based rating systems: each book will get a score in between one to five coffees. This will allow both myself as my readers to compare books with each other, as well as get an idea of how much I would recommend the book.

“That’s something that annoys the hell out of me- I mean if somebody says the coffee’s all ready and it isn’t”― J.D. Salinger, The Catcher in the Rye.”

One Coffee

This book clearly wasn't my (wait for it) cup of coffee. One coffee means I struggled to finish it (or might have even stopped reading altogether). I would not recommend this book to anyone. Does this automatically mean it is a bad book?

No, it doesn't! Although this book was clearly not for me, you still might find you like it. After all, tastes do differ!

Two Coffees

While I didn't really enjoy this book, it certainly has some redeeming qualities. I most certainly finished reading it and while I wouldn't pick up a similar book right away, I certainly did not dislike all of it.

Three Coffees

Most books will sit at the three Coffee-mark for me. I like reading them and while I do not consider them to be masterpieces or 'must-reads', these certainly are good books.

It is an enjoyable read, which I might recommend to anyone looking for just that.

Four Coffees

I really enjoyed this book and I will actively recommend this one, especially if this fits your taste or genre. I will be on the look-out for other books by this author or sequels in this series. If we had any conversation about books recently, you might have heard this book mentioned.

Five Coffees

As far as I'm concerned, this book is a masterpiece. I could not put it down and probably lost some sleep over it. Frankly, I think you should stop reading this blog and go read this book instead.

Not only will I actively recommend this book to anyone, I will probably go on and on about it in a most lyrical way.
